Responsibilities

The Food & Beverage Manager will serve as a key member of an extremely collaborative management team at the Banff Gondola. The Food & Beverage Manager will function as the company’s leader for the three outlets, Sky Bistro, Northern Lights Café, and Castle Mountain Coffee Co, and the kitchen team, which are located on top of Sulphur Mountain. The Gondola offers a unique experience to live in one of the most beautiful parts the Canadian Rockies. Fully immersed in impressive rugged mountains, you will have the most spectacular backyard imaginable! Responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the General Manager, this position will be the overall leader for food and beverage and part of the Gondola leadership team
  • Oversee all Food & Beverage operations
  • Hire, train and manage all leaders for each outlet
  • Assist Management with hiring team members
  • Performance management
  • Train, mentor and develop team
  • Maintain core standards as developed by Food and Beverage Director
  • Contribute to the organizational strategic direction and overall success
  • Effectively manage and direct all Food & Beverage outlets and front of house departments, to strike a healthy balance between guest satisfaction/experience, driving revenues and overall F&B retention
  • Meet weekly with F&B management team
  • Ensure daily pre-shift meetings occur
  • Enforce cleanliness standards in F&B outlets, utilizing approved daily and weekly checklists
  • Approve all F&B schedules
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and in good working condition
  • Ensure we are well positioned within the travel and tourism marketplace
  • Assist in the development and implementation of restaurant identities and menu design
  • Manage capital planning and purchasing for the F&B division, including assistance in renovations where required
  • Responsible for the budgeting and forecasting process of all F&B departments
  • Development of progressive & profitable wine and beverage lists
  • Develop, institute, and follow-up on revenue enhancing promotions
  • Ensure smooth flow and accuracy in all monthly inventory procedures and controls
  • Ensure all revenue/expense/payroll controls are in place and adhered to
  • Communicate effectively with Kitchen and other departments
  • Ensure a hazard free working environment for all employees
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all food and beverage service areas are maintained
  • Ensure we are providing a balanced mountain lifestyle for all F&B employees
  • Work with team to ensure Sky Bistro earns a top three ranking by delivering exceptional dining experiences
  • Work with team to differentiate the offering in Northern Lights to improve the guest experience and drive the average check
  • Fully integrate food offerings into festivals and gondola events
  • Deliver premium private events
  • Earn a reputation as a top employer in the Bow Valley

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the hospitality and travel industries
  • Minimum of 3 years senior level experience in a similar sized operation
  • Post-secondary education in hospitality or a related field a definite asset
  • Experience building relationships and working on teams across all levels of an organization, particularly with operating teams, line supervisors, and seasonal staff
  • Thrives in a fast paced and high energy work environment
  • Able to create “followership” through modelling our core values and best practices
  • Capable of inspiring teams to drive speed and performance within the organization
  • Experience with P/L management, creating strong employee and guest satisfaction
  • Experience in budgeting and financial controls required
  • Excellent wine and food knowledge
  • Must have Serve Pro certificate (Licensee)
  • Must have a flexible schedule as weekends and evening shifts are involved
  • Outstanding team player, able to motivate and support employees
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and guest service skills
  • Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with fine dining and/or five star hotels
  • Experience in Micros an asset
